Coach Hall introduced me to Maurice Prendergast. I have been looking through his paintings for inspiration for my own. I really like the way that he paints his figures, with values to give them form but without too much detail. He has some nice compositions, however, I think some of his pieces are a little bit too busy, without enough negative space. I also think he has a lack of value overall in a lot of his pieces, making them read very flat. But I do think he uses color very effectively. He inspires my art because I am trying to figure out how to effectively paint figures to make them look lively without making them too detailed, and I am also trying to improve my color schemes and color blending. I really like the painting on the top row in the middle because the clouds are very expressive and colorful. I like how the clouds are orange instead of white, and how the overall color scheme is orange and blue but he's worked in a lot of other colors to make it very dramatic. I also love the painting on the top left. The composition is very nice and the colors are muted but expressive, and this piece does create the illusion of space really effectively.
